Happy Holiday Wishes

Here's wishing everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.

I'll be traveling down to Florida to spend the holiday's with my wife's family.

Here is a shot from last December of a sea gull bravely facing the winds gusting off of the Gulf of Mexico at Fort Desoto near St. Petersburg.

No matter what the winds of change bring in 2011 here's hoping you don't get blown away.

Don't forget the Civil War in 2011

The Sesequential US Civil War Celebration will be starting next year here in South Carolina. The Relic Room and the State Museum are both planning special exhibits and I know there will be a big event to "celebrate" the first shots at Fort Sumpter in Charleston Harbor next April.

Far from their original homes, some 1950's GP9's still work in 2010 South Carolina.

African Violets

My wife Cindy is a big fan of African Violets.

I enjoy them when they are blooming in the kitchen window at our house.

Table Rock Curve

Table Rock State Park along the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Byway in Northern South Carolina.

I like this shot in Black & White, but don't care for it at all in color. The curving road works a lot better in monochrome.

Norfolk & Western Steam Memories

The Norfolk & Western was known for their large coaling towers. This concrete twin track tower still stands in Bluefield, West Virginia.

They will hopefully last a long time as it is too expensive to remove them.

Sunbeam Bread - It's Batter Whipped!

Here is some historic Sunbeam advertising from a General Store in Norway, South Carolina. The store which was moved to the location (I believe) is covered in Nostalgia.

Cockshutt Tractors - Old Iron in Aiken

I'd never heard of Cockshutt tractors before seeing these in front of the new Aiken Depot in Aiken, SC in October 2010.

I did find a couple of books about them on Amazon if you are interested.

Silo Storm

Today's photograph.. "Silo Storm" was shot in Augusta, Georgia in Summer 2010.  It was shot using a Canon 7d and the 50mm 1.8 EF lens. Click on the photo too see a larger version.

Silos such as these are a quickly fading reminder of the history of farming and agriculture in Georgia. On many farms they are abandoned or are being torn-down to make room for additional crops.
